The family of Juice WRLD, real name Jarad Anthony Higgins, have finally broken their silence and opened up about the tragic death of the rapper.

Aged just 21, the star died on Sunday following a seizure at an airport in Chicago.

The incident occurred after an alleged overdose of Percocet pills.

It is reported that he swallowed a number of the pills in order to hide them from police, after the pilot of his private jet notified authorities that there were drugs and guns on board.

In a statement, the family told TMZ they loved the star and confessed he had a dependency on prescription drugs.

“As he often addressed in his music and to his fans, Jarad battled with prescription drug dependency,” they said.

“Addiction knows no boundaries and its impact goes way beyond the person fighting it,” the family explained.

“Jarad was a son, brother, grandson, friend and so much more to so many people who wanted more than anything to see him defeat addiction.”

The family said that they hope his legacy will help fans to overcome their own “battles”.

“We hope the conversations he started in his music and his legacy will help others win their battles as that is what he wanted more than anything.”

“We know that Jarad’s legacy of love, joy and emotional honesty will live on.”
