Jennifer Aniston was cruelly told by her agent to shed 30lbs to “stay in Hollywood” during the early stages of her career.

The actress was told to lose weight if she wanted work, not long before she landed her big time role on Friends.

In a new book to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the hit show, author Saul Austerlitz detailed Aniston’s battle with her agent.

In the book Generation Friends: An Inside Look at the Show That Defined a Television Era he said: “She had to lose thirty pounds if she wanted to stay in Hollywood.”

Her agent told her to lose 30lbs, and soon after, she landed a role on Friends as Rachel Green.

“Los Angeles was a tough place to be an actress – it was a tough place to be a woman – and Jennifer Aniston’s agent was reluctantly levelling with her,” Austerlitz continued.

Jennifer previously admitted that she appreciated her agent for being so honest with her during a 1996 interview with Rolling Stone.

At the time, she said: “My agent gave it to me straight. Nicest thing he ever did… The disgusting thing of Hollywood – I wasn’t getting lots of jobs ’cause I was too heavy.”

“I was like, ‘What?!’ But my diet was terrible. Milk shakes and French fries with gravy. It was a good thing to start paying attention.”
