E! News presenter Maria Menounos reveals battle with brain tumour

Maria Menounos is recovering after surgery to remove a brain tumour.

The TV presenter – whose mother is battling stage four cancer – revealed she was diagnosed after noticing something wasn’t right at work.

“I’d been getting lightheaded on set and having headaches,” she told the new issue of People magazine.

“My speech had gotten slurred and I was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.”

Maria admitted she “laughed” when she heard the news because it was so “surreal and crazy and unbelievable”, and underwent surgery with her mother’s neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black.

Fortunately as expected, Dr. Black discovered during the seven-hour surgery last month that the tumour was benign, and was able to remove 99.9 percent of it.

“He said there’s a six to seven percent chance that we’ll see it come back,” she shared. “But I’ll take those odds any day.”

Maria is now resting at home with her mother – whose cancer is stable, according to People – and calls the whole experience a “blessing”.

“This is something that takes at least a month of healing, but I’m getting stronger and stronger every day and I’ll be back to normal very soon,” she said.

Maria also announced that she is leaving E! and E! News after three years.
