Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson reveals he was the Oscars ‘first choice to host’

Dwyane Johnson has revealed that he was the Academy’s ‘first choice’ to host this year’s Oscars.

For the first time in 30 years, the Oscars will not have a host, after the controversy with Kevin Hart.

However, the former wrestler has admitted that the Academy wanted him to present the award show, he tweeted: “Ah mahalo dude, I was their first choice to host this year, and my goal was to make it the most fun and entertaining Oscars ever.”

“We all tried hard, but couldn’t make it work since I’m shooting Jumanji. Academy and I were super bummed but maybe one day down the road.”

The actor recently started filming a sequel to the 2017 hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, where he starred alongside Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas in the first film.

His co-star Kevin was originally confirmed as the Oscars host but decided to step down after homophobic tweets from his past surfaced again.

Fans have since questioned if Dwayne’s tweet suggests that Kevin won’t be appearing in the new Jumanji, one wrote: “So is Kevin Hart not in the next Jumanji?”
