Demi Lovato set to spend ‘several months’ in rehab following near fatal overdose

The singer will undergo extensive treatment in a rehab facility

Demi Lovato is set to spend several months in rehab, as she seeks extensive treatment following her near fatal overdose last month.

On July 24, the 25-year-old was rushed to hospital after an alleged opioid overdose.

After spending a week in Cedars-Sinai hospital in LA, the singer immediately entered rehab to seek treatment for her addiction.

A source has since told E! News, “She will be in rehab for several months and is doing an extensive program to ensure she gets the help she needs.”

The songstress is currently in Chicago, where she is undergoing treatment with a therapist who focuses on sobriety, mental health and wellness.

The insider added that Demi “hasn’t been in communication with anyone and is really focusing on herself.”

This includes limiting contact with her ex-boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama, who hit headlines when he was spotted visiting the singer in hospital following her overdose.

The source added that, “Wilmer has been in touch with the family and has been checking in on Demi’s status,” but he’s been unable to speak to Demi while she undergoes treatment.

The insider explained, “The family is trying to make sure they eliminate all distractions and want her to be focusing on her health right now.”

“Demi is doing much better. She has become more open and is happy she is getting the help she needs,” especially after she began to “grasp the severity of what happened and that she almost died.”
