Cristiano Ronaldo releases statement denying rape claim

Cristiano Ronaldo has released a statement denying the rape claim made against him.

The football star was accused of raping model, Kathryn Mayorga, in a hotel room in Las Vegas in 2009.

Kathryn claimed that she was paid $375,000 to keep quiet about the alleged rape and was forced to sign a nondisclosure and settlement agreement in 2010.

The model has now gone to court to void the settlement and wants to claim a further $200,000 in damages, as she alleged that she has suffered from PTSD, depression and physical injuries as a result of the alleged attack.

Cristiano has now released a statement regarding the accusations made against him, as he previously described it as “fake news” in an Instagram Live.

The 33-year-old has taken to Twitter to tell fans: “I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.”

“Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense,” he continued.

“My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations,” the former Manchester United player tweeted.

Cristiano’s tweets come just days after his 23-year-old girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, showed her support for the footballer on Instagram.

The mother-of-one shared an image of herself at a football stadium, alongside the caption: “You always transform the obstacles that are put in your way into impulse and strength to show how great you are.”

“Thank you for making us enjoy each game. Always more and better. I love you @cristiano,” she wrote.
