Chris Brown prosecuted for owning a pet monkey

The singer has come under fire for owning an exotic animal

Chris Brown is being prosecuted for owning a baby capuchin monkey.

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles City Attorney is charging the star with two counts of having a restricted species without a permit.

Late last year, Chris caused controversy when he posted a video of his three-year-old daughter Royalty playing with his baby capuchin monkey, named Fiji.

People slammed the With You singer for putting his daughter in danger, and sources say the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife were notified.

After they launched an investigation, they found that Chris didn’t have a permit for the monkey, so authorities got a search warrant and planned to raid his home.

However, before they could carry out a raid, Chris voluntarily agreed to surrender the monkey.

Chris is due in court on February 6, and could face a maximum sentence of six months in jail.
