Chinese internet tycoon responds to rumours that he’s dating Taylor Swift

Charles Zhang Chaoyang has denied rumours he’s dating singer Taylor Swift.

The businessman, who is the founder of internet company Sohu, was forced to publicly deny that he was dating the pop star after South China Morning Post reported that Taylor is dating one of China’s tech tycoons.

When asked about the rumours on Sohu’s live-streaming platform Qianfan last week, the 52-year-old admitted that he didn’t know who Taylor was – and caused controversy as he reportedly said that he has “no interest in foreign women”.

“It’s just a rumour. I have no interest in foreign women … I don’t even know who Taylor Swift is,” Charles said.

The rumours first started on China’s social media platform Weibo that Taylor was dating a middle-aged tech tycoon from China, who can speak English.

However, after denying their romance, Charles Zhang, who Forbes listed as one of the richest men in China back in 2010, received plenty of backlash for his comments about foreign women.

“All at once, he offended every foreign woman,” one person commented, while another wrote, “It’s not as if Taylor would be interested in him.”
