Celebrities pay tribute to Boyz N The Hood director John Singleton

Celebrities have been paying tributes to Boyz N The Hood director, John Singleton.

The Oscar nominated director suffered a stroke last Wednesday and his family released a statement on Monday saying he “passed away peacefully.”

The 51-year-old was known for directing huge films including, 2Fast 2Furious, Shaft and working on programmes such as Empire and The People v OJ Simpson – American Crime Story.

A number of celebs including Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson and Janet Jackson have now paid tribute to him online.

Mark Wahlberg, who starred in Four Brothers, tweeted: “RIP to my dear friend and brother.”

Regina King shared an emotional tribute with a number of photos with John on Instagram, as she said: “Rest In Power, my friend. One of the greatest to ever do it. Thank you GOD for blessing us with this gift better known as John Singleton. Having trouble finding enough words to share just what you mean to me. Will always love you John! Your spirit will forever shine bright.”

Samuel L. Jackson, who worked with John on Shaft, said: “Mourning the loss of a collaborator & True Friend John Singleton. He blazed the trail for many young film makers, always remaining true to who he was & where he came from!!! RIP Brother. Gone Way Too Soon!”

Janet Jackson also took to Instagram to say: “You gave me my first movie role, my first Oscar nomination and so much more. Thank you for all you have given to the world through your work and all you have done for Black culture, women and young filmmakers. I will miss you John. Keeping your family in my prayers.”
