Batgirl is set to get her own movie – with Joss Whedon at the helm.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator is in talks to write, direct and produce a standalone Batgirl movie, according to Variety.

The project has been in the works for the past few weeks and Joss is said to have almost reached a deal with Warner Bros.

Joss has been working with Disney-Marvel in recent years, having written and directed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and created Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This will mark the first time Batgirl has had her own movie, and she is the second female DC Universe character to get a standalone film after Wonder Woman.

Yvonne Craig famously played the character in the 1960s Batman television series.

More recently, Alicia Silverstone portrayed Batgirl in 1997’s Batman & Robin, which starred George Clooney as the Caped Crusader.
