Brad Pitt has hit back after Angelina Jolie claimed that he was not paying child support.
In a court filing last week the actress’ lawyer said that Brad had paid “no meaningful child support” since the beginning of their divorce in 2016.
Brad’s lawyers responded to Angelina by stating that the accusations made against him are a “thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage.”
Angelina’s lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, responded to the actor’s statement and told PEOPLE, “What has been filed by Brad’s side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children.”
The 54-year-old responded to Angelina’s court filing by stating that he had paid over $1.3 million in child support, as well as lending the actress $8 million to buy a house.
A spokesperson for Angelina told PEOPLE that the goal of the filing “is to provide closure to the marriage.”
The couple met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005 and married in 2014, before Angelina filed for divorce in 2016.
