Abigail Breslin is opening up about her experience with sexual assault.
The actress has revealed she was assaulted by somebody she knew to mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Abigail posted an image to Instagram that read, “You are not obligated to have sex with someone that you’re in a relationship with. Dating is not consent. Marriage is not consent.”
In the caption, the 20-year-old wrote, “I knew my assailant. #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth #breakthesilence.”
Fans were quick to praise Abigail in the comment section for so bravely speaking out, and she shared some kind words for one fan who said they had been sexually assaulted by two different people they knew.
“So terrible and I can’t say sorry enough even tho I know it doesn’t take the pain away,” she wrote in response. “You are not alone.”

On Twitter, Abigail’s Dirty Dancing co-star Sarah Hyland wrote, “Proud of you Abs #BreakTheSilence,” and Debra Messing added, “”I love you, Abbie. Your strength and testimony means so much to too many. #voice.”
Abigail is set to portray Frances “Baby” Houseman in the Dirty Dancing TV movie remake, while Sarah will play her big sister Lisa and Debra is portraying their mother.
Abigail is also known for her roles in Scream Queens, Zombieland and Little Miss Sunshine.
