Editor's Note: Why I'm Going On The Dry For January

IMG_2017

It’s not a stretch to say I’m a bit of a party girl – in this industry there’s at least two parties a night during the week, and the last few months I’ve drank at every single one of them.

It’s very hard to say no to a free glass of prosecco (my favourite drink) and once you’ve started sipping, the bubbles keep on flowing and flowing (first world problems I know).

Take November – I went to Las Vegas for my birthday where I drank every night (Prosecco and Grey Goose Vodka).

It was a hard-hitting five days, and then I returned to Dublin for Irish celebrations of my birthday (cue the Captain Morgan).

On The Dry: I’m taking a break for January

By the end of the next week I had drank every single night since I landed in Vegas, meaning I drank 12 nights in a row.

Now don’t get me wrong, that was perfectly normal in my college days, but I’m 26 now, and I think I need to take a break.

Those other nights included about three Christmas parties a night in Dublin, from restaurant openings, to corporate Christmas parties and product launches.

I’ve been writing features all week on the site about the best bits of 2015 and looking towards 2016 – so it’s the perfect time for a bit of a resolution.

Vegas was one big party

I’ve never done it before (or even thought about it) but this January I’m going on the dry.

It’s an understatement to say it’s going to be hard for me, because I love a glass of bubbly at a party, vino with my mates or Captain Morgan on a night out.

Plus I’ll be turning away a lot of complimentary drinks over those long five weeks.

For charity: I’ve set up a sponsorship page

As well as giving my poor ole liver a break, On The Dry is also a great fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation.

So I’m going to the official NYE celebrations in the 3Arena for New Years, but once I wake up on January 1st 2016 I’m off drink for the month.

Last year Eoghan McDermott and Bernard Brogan signed up and now so have I, with all proceeds going to the Irish Heart Foundation.

The On The Dry account automatically gave me a fundraising budget of €150 but how amazing would it be to raise more?

I think I can do it, and you should too, it’s all for charity and it’s great to take a break from alcohol not only for your body, but your mind too.

Go on and be sound and sponsor me, if not for my liver do it for charity!
