Strictly star Tristan MacManus reveals he would move to Ireland for a dance show

BBC star Tristan MacManus has revealed that he would consider making a permanent move back to Ireland if he was offered a part on a Strictly style dance show here.

Speaking to Goss.ie at the launch of the Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards, the 33-year-old admitted his move home would depend on the right project.

“I wouldn’t mind, it’s one of those things where it would have to depend on what it is,” he said.

“It’s one of those funny things with all these shows, that everyone who dances they kind of try so hard to get on these shows and once they get on them, they want to use that show to go and do something else.”

When asked if he’s ever been offered to do a show in Ireland, the dancer revealed he had an opportunity a number of years ago but was already working on Dancing with the Stars in the US.

“I think there might have been one a couple of years ago while I was in Dancing with the Stars… at the time it wasn’t really something I wanted to do,” he admitted.

Aside from TV shows, Tristan insisted that if he was to permanently return to Ireland, he would like to be apart of “something that actually means something”.

“I’d like to do something that actually means something, specifically here. I’d like to do something that actually contributes to something more than just getting ratings,” he told Goss.ie.

“There’s a lot of great dance schools here, but I find that people need something else after that, otherwise you’re just coming in and learning dances every week, which is fun but I mean what are you gonna do with that?”

On the topic of raising a family, the Strictly star, who is married to Australian actress Tahyna Tozzi, admitted he would love to settle down in his homeland in the future.

“100% yeah, of course I would. My wife loves Ireland, I love Ireland,” he said.

Tristan will be a judge at the 2016 Bord Gáis Energy Student Theatre Awards – deadline for entries for this years competition is 5pm, Friday January 29. For more info, log on to bgesta.ie.
