Shane Filan reveals: 'Louis Walsh is far too honest'

Shane Filan has revealed that his manager Louis Walsh can be a little too honest with his opinions.

The former Westlife star stuck with Louis’ management following Westlife’s split in 2012, and although he admitted he can be a little too brutal with his honesty, he said he needs that quality in a manager.

“He’s still 100 per cent behind me in my career.  He’s always honest with me, too honest!  Sometimes I’m like, ‘Louis you don’t need to be that honest!'” he said.

“But that’s what I need in a manager.  I need somebody to tell me the way to go, is this right, and he’ll say ‘yeah’ or ‘no, I don’t think it’s right’ because every decision is very important, especially when you’re a solo artist.

“Louis’ first love has always been managing, from managing show bands to managing Boyzone and all the other stuff,” he told Independent.ie.

Despite Louis’ brutal honesty causing some understandable disagreements, Shane said they meet each other half way and that he supports him 100 percent.

Supportive: Louis support Shane in his career 100 percent

“I think we agree to disagree like any artist and manager,” he admitted.

“I think we’re fairly on the same page in terms of where I should be at in my career, musically, we would be very close on that.  There’s no point if you’re constantly fighting battles. He’s as excited about the tour as I am.

“Even when we were in Westlife, he was always coming down to the shows, walking out through the crowd meeting people. He loves it. He’s a music man,” he added.

Tour time: Shane is set to go on tour after the release of his album Right Here

Following the release of his second solo album Right Here, Shane is gearing up for a UK and Ireland tour kicking off on March 3 with Belfast, Cork and Dublin dates on the 15, 18, and 19.

“This is the most exciting part of the year, of the album cycle,” he said.

“You spend 4 to 5 months in studio making the album, then putting it out there, hoping it’s good enough, so the tour is really a celebration of the album, the end of the cycle.”
