Saoirse Ronan reveals how she almost MISSED her Oscar nomination

Saoirse Ronan has revealed that she almost missed hearing that she was nominated for an Oscar – because she was fast asleep.

The 21-year-old, who was nominated by the Academy for her performance in Brooklyn, admitted she was unprepared for the announcement as she was in bed with jet lag with her ear plugs in.

Currently in New York rehearsing for The Crucible on Broadway, the blonde beauty was spending the first night in her new apartment when she heard the news.

“[I was] still getting used to the New York traffic and all that stuff so I had ear plugs in my ears,” she said.

“I actually had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in days because I’ve been a big jet lagged.

“I was in LA doing press. I got back to New York and terrible jet lag so I was finally getting to sleep,” she told RTÉ TEN.

“I went into a really deep sleep which was a bit weird considering what was going on…”

Saoirse revealed that it took her mother’s excited screams to wake her up to tell her the good news, thanks to her ear plugs.

“Mam ran into the room and all I could hear was ‘WE’RE GOING TO THE OSCARS! WE’RE GOING TO THE OSCARS!’,” she explained.

“And it was kind of muffled so all I couldn’t make out what she was saying and she just had tears in her eyes and pulled out the ear plugs and she was able to tell me what the news was and everything.

This will be Saoirse’s second chance at an Oscar win – having previously nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Atonement in 2008.

The Brooklyn star had admitted it was all a dream being recognised by the Academy for a second time.
