Saoirse Ronan praises Ryan Gosling for helping people pronounce her name

Saoirse Ronan has thanked Ryan Gosling for his effort to help people pronounce her name.

The Carlow native was presented the New Hollywood Award at the Hollywood Film Awards in November by Ryan Gosling, and the actor made sure to tell the audience her name was pronounced “Ser-sha, like inertia”.

Since the awards, the correct pronunciation of Saoirse’s traditional Irish name has now caught on as it’s now being displayed in cinemas in the US, thanks to Ryan.

“Someone sent me a photo two weeks later of a cinema in Minnesota, and on the sign in the front it said, ‘Brooklyn’ and then underneath it said, ‘Ser-sha, Like Inertia’,” she told People magazine at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The powers of the word of Ryan Gosling baffled Saoirse so much that she described the actor as “a blond Canadian Jesus”.

“I couldn’t believe it! They actually put it on the front of the cinema, so the power of Ryan Gosling is stronger than anything else. He’s like Jesus or something, like a blond Canadian Jesus!”

Meanwhile Saoirse, who is currently being tipped for an Oscar nomination, nabbed yet another huge award for her performance in Brooklyn at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, as well as Michael Fassbender.
