Red Rock's Richard Flood changes squad for new TV role

Actor Richard Flood better known as Red Rock’s Garda Superintendent James McKay has revealed he will play another officer of the law in his latest project.

While the TV3 show is on hiatus, Richard will play former bare knuckle boxing policeman Tommy McConnell in drama Crossing Lines on Alibi.

In preparation for the role, the TV star revealed he spent hours in the gym training with a former kick-boxing champion.

“I had to put on a lot of muscle for the job, so I was training with a European champions kick-boxer – he was a beast – in Prague where we shot most of the series,” he said.

“There was a lot of weapons training as well. I hadn’t done that level of preparation before,

“For some plays I would lose a lot of weight or put on weight, but I’ve never had to work out so much,” he added.

Speaking to the RTE Guide, the Dublin star admitted he enjoyed the experience of getting fit.

“It was a lot of fun, and the training was a nice hook into the character,” he revealed.
