Former Westlife star Nicky Byrne was in a world of his own last night – after winning a top radio award.
The 2FM presenter won the Best Newcomer gong at the prestigious PPI Radio Awards, just months after starting on the station.
It was a massive coup for the Nicky Byrne Show host, whose three hour show has now become the most listened to programme on the station.

However the RTE star didn’t managed to win both of the gongs he was up for – with Dermot and Dave taking home Best Music Programme.
Initially after being nominated, Nicky said he was “beyond chuffed” to just be nominated.
He said:Â “I’m beyond chuffed with the two nominations for the show. Jenny, along with producer Al, Lindy and Kate have become my on-air family.”

Other big winners include Ian Dempsey, whose Today FM show took home the Best Breakfast Show gong.
98FM’s – and now Today FM’s – Dermot Whelan won Best Music Broadcaster, and former Father Ted star Ken Sweeney won Best Music Documentary.
The showbiz journalist won the gong for his RTE Radio 1 documentary Michael Jackson’s Irish Driver.
