Newly crowned Miss Ireland Sacha Livingstone has revealed her mother suffered a terrifying stroke.

Just one year ago the beauty queen was devastated when her mum had a stroke aged 49.

“Luckily it wasn’t a massive stroke and she has recovered well,” Sacha explained.

“She was at work when she had the stroke but if it had all taken place in front of me I don’t know what I would have done.”

“I never knew anything about strokes beforehand, and I had no idea it could affect someone so young,” she told the Sunday Mirror.

“So I am really passionate about reaching out, especially to younger people, to get across the message it can happen to anyone,” she added.

Sacha’s mum Pauline was by her side as she was announced the new Miss Ireland – and the English Literature student said it was great to see her in such good spirits.

“My mum was (there) and she was so excited. She was loving it, running around telling everyone I was her daughter.

“She is doing well, she is fully recovered and is back to work, so we’ve been lucky,” she added.

Sacha has said she will make sure to use her title to promote the work done by Chest, Heart and Stroke.
