Michael Fassbender: 'Going to the urinal made me become an actor'

Irish actor Michael Fassbender has revealed how going to the bathroom helped him hit the big time.

The Kerry man revealed he had been turned down by two drama schools when he read some inspiring graffiti while waiting to audition for The Drama Centre in London.

“I went to the urinal and saw that someone had written ‘Hi, Cookie’,” he said.

“I had just finished playing the Cook in a production of Mother Courage and I did it with a Scottish accent.

“I’ll do the monologue in a Scottish accent I decided, even though that wasn’t how I had prepared it,” he told the New York Times.

“I’m not saying what I saw was a sign but maybe I did take it that way, and that helped me.”

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old opened up about making ends meet by bartending before he got his big break came in multi-award-winning movie Hunger.

“I enjoyed the bar. But, God, I really, really, really wanted to act,” he added.

The Hollywood actor will next appear on the big screen in a film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
