EXCLUSIVE! Louise McSharry opens up on writing her debut book: 'It is hell'

Louise McSharry has opened up about writing her debut book, and admitted that the process was “hell”.

The radio presenter, who journaled her cancer battle in RTE2 documentary F**K Cancer, is set to release her first book titled Fat Chance: My Life in Ups, Downs and Crisp Sandwiches – but revealed that the book writing process wasn’t easy.

“Anyone who has ever written a book will tell you, it is hell,” she told Goss.ie at the VIP Style Awards launch.

“Some days I woke up and it was like no problem, the words would just fly out of me I might write 5,000 words like no problem I wouldn’t even feel it, but then other days I wouldn’t.

“It is so hard, and now that it’s done I’m just terrified all the time because the idea of other people reading, it is really scary.

“And so the whole time I was doing it I was like, ‘Why did I ever think this was a good idea? This is a terrible idea'”, she stressed.

Louise’s debut book is set for release on June 2, and describes it as a memoir that includes “stuff about my childhood, it has stuff about the cancer, but it also has stuff about work and there’s a lot in it about body image.”

While the radio star admitted that she struggled a bit writing her book, she can’t deny the satisfaction and pride you feel once you finish a project that takes that much time.

“It’s very satisfying to have done it, I’m the kind of person who works well to short deadlines.

“So the fact that I had this big project that I had to work on over a long space of time, and I had to be disciplined and committed and I did it makes me proud of myself,” she revealed to Goss.ie.

Scared: Louise admitted that she’s nervous about her book coming out | INSTAGRAM

Speaking about feeling anxious coming up to the book’s release as it’s contents are so personal, Louise is admittedly scared.

“I’m really nervous, I really have kind of laid it all out there, you know, and I think there’s real value in that and that’s why I’ve done it.

“I hope other people will take things from it that they’ll find useful, but you just don’t know, you don’t know until it’s out there, so it is scary,” she added.
