Julie Walters: 'I get my acting talent from my Irish mother'

Legendary actress Julie Walters has admitted she gets her acting genes from her Irish mother.

The 66-year-old star insisted her love of stage and screen came from her mother’s family in Mayo.

“I remember my mother telling me my Irish grandfather used to recite famous court cases. And my uncle used to direct plays in the west of Ireland.

“My brothers are teachers and there’s a very close link between acting and teaching – standing at the front, having to convince the kids you’re telling the truth and trying to make it interesting,” she told Woman & Home magazine.

The British actress, whose mother grew up on a Mayo farm, revealed she took inspiration from her mother’s family for her role as Irish landlady Mrs Kehoe in Brooklyn.
