Irish film Sing Street receives rave reviews at Sundance

Irish film Sing Street has received rave reviews as it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival over in the US.

The movie, directed by John Carney who wrote and directed critically-acclaimed film Once, went down a hit as it was screened at the popular film festival held every year in Utah.

Audience members at Sundance took to Twitter to share their love for the Irish made musical-drama, which follows the story of a boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s who escapes his strained family life by starting a band and moving to London.

The film has been tipped for success, with Goss.ie listing it as one of five Irish movies to watch in 2016, thanks to its stellar cast and due to John Carney’s experienced influence.

Sing Street stars well-known Irish actors Aidan Gillen and Jack Reynor, as well as Maria Doyle Kennedy among other young Irish talents.

John Carney and cast members attended the Sundance screening to show their support for the movie, with Jack Reynor taking to Instagram to share a snap of him and his fiancée Madeline Mulqueen getting ready to watch the flick.
