Gavin James opens up about stage fright ahead of Croke Park gig

Gavin James opens up about getting stage fright ahead of his gig in Croke Park.

The flame haired singer is supporting Ed Sheeran tonight to a crowd of 80,000 people.

“Usually before a gig I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine, then ten minutes beforehand I’m like I’m pale as a ghost and I don’t want to do anything, I want to sit in the corner and curl into a ball,” he said.

The Dubliner is currently on tour with Sam Smith in America but flew home to play in the GAA stadium and will be heading back out this weekend and admitted he is loving the tour.

“I’m back on Sunday morning to finish off. It’s been great, I’ve only done like three gigs with him so far, it’s been massive, I think it’s mad that we got it like. It’s great to get the chance to go over there and do gigs over in the States,” he added.

The 24-year-old is also adjusting to the American audience and has to speak slower so they can understand his Irish accent.

“I’m getting used to talking a bit slower at gigs. I watched videos back and I’d tell a joke and then I’d get nothing and then I’d say it again very slowly and then people would laugh,” he revealed.

While the Say Hello singer is home, he will also be playing an intimate gig in Whelans, a venue he prefers to play in.

“It’s one of my favourite places to play ever and I love them gigs, I love playing that gig because you get to have a bit of banter just not take it too seriously and just talk,” he explained.

The in demand star is also working on his album which he hopes to release early next year.

“I’m going to release a couple of singles before the album comes out. The album is coming together really well so we’re nearly finished it and we just did five songs last week, just finished them all off. It’s going to be good and be out in the new year. I’m very excited about it,” he told Stephen Byrne on 2fm.

The ever modest hit maker is enjoying his rapidly expanding career and is taking it all in his stride.

“I just like having the craic with it all, enjoying everything and stepping back for a bit and saying Oh my god I’m actually doing Croke Park, it’s mad. I get to actually play this gig tonight and I’m to America to do gigs.

“Even just going to America in general, I love it. I think it’s great. I don’t mind what happens really, I love doing what I do,” he added.
