Five Ways To Wear The Must-have Trend of 2016: The Neck Tie

There were only ever three reasons as a teenager why I would wear a neck-tie; for school; to cover up a hickey; or to channel my inner Avril Lavinge (please don’t judge me, I was a noughties kid).

However the neck-tie, going under different guises of scarf and neckerchief, has become a fashion statement for the masses for the impending season and not just for the reasons above.

This year’s fall catwalks saw Givenchy and Alexander Wang offering a fresh take on the neck accessory with ease and elegance – sans elaborate fastenings, close-fitted linings and fuss.

The trend channelled by the IT girls of the moment, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Alexa Chung, the slinky scarf has made a comeback on red carpets and glitzy affairs alike.

The look has even made it’s way over to Irish shores with starlet Roz Purcell rocking it.

Still unsure how to wear it? Here’s 5 ways to work this look in 2016:

1. The Bandana

Although it’s surprising to some that it’s resurfaced in such a fashion renaissance, there’s no need to fear the word bandana this season.

No longer the favoured 90’s headgear, the bandana is turning a stylish flare with stars wearing the accessory around their wrists, jeans and bags.

However, it was Angela Scanlon’s Parisian approach that caught our attention – so follow in the TV presenter’s footsteps and wear the western-motif piece tied around the neck and keep the rest of the outfit simple.

2. The Slinky Scarf

There’s different ways to rock the skinny tie this season, there’s the outright glam rock look that brings memories of New York’s Studio 54 or there’s the 2015 way of working it.

The longer the scarf the better in Goss HQ’s opinion so follow in our favourite US songstress Selena Gomez’s fashion choice and go for a knee length tie.

Put a new spin on the twin set by choosing the same colour as your dress to add that extra style oomph.

3. The Neck Tie

The simple but effective neck tie, similar to a choker, has been cropping up amongst the style pack over the past few months.

From Gigi to the Jenner sisters, the fashionistas have been setting the trend on red carpets and nights out with the neck tie – keeping the accessory to black or white.

Top model and cook, Roz Purcell has been a fan of the look over the festive pairing it with her bespoke Scribe suits.

4. The Pussy Bow Blouse

If going stand alone with a neckerchief is too much, then perhaps you should follow the 70’s trend and invest in a pussy bow blouse.

Follow of the likes of Alexa Chung, Kate Bosworth and Chloe Sevigny and invest in this must-have piece to bring you from day to night.

Keep it simple with the look and choose a neutral tone – however, if you’re feeling bold then take a page out of Alexa’s book and go for lace.

5. The Incorporated Neck Tie

We’ve seen a host of fashionistas rocking dresses and shirts that incorporate a neck-tie like choker.

ITV darling Laura Whitmore has been setting her Instagram a light with this black shirt that incorporates the modern fuse of the skinny scarf and shirt.

The look is downright chic but does add that touch of sex appeal with the cut-out detail – showing a slight bit of skin for the winter season.
