EXCLUSIVE! Eoghan McDermott: 'Ireland's Got Talent WON'T happen'

Eoghan McDermott has revealed that he doesn’t think Ireland Got Talent will happen.

Rumours have been rife that an Irish version of the hit series Britain’s Got Talent could be replacing The Voice of Ireland on RTÉ next year, but Eoghan has now shut down rumours once and for all.

“I don’t think Ireland’s Got Talent will happen, because I think it will just get benchmarked against the UK one,” he told Goss.ie.

“I remember when it was the All Ireland Talent Show, which is basically Ireland’s Got Talent with a different sticker on it, and it just ran out of talent very quickly and it burned so quickly.

“So I don’t think that will happen.”

Speaking about possible replacements for The Voice of Ireland if it was axed, Eoghan admitted that he’s unsure RTÉ would find anything as suitable and universal as the show.

“I think a lot of people thought last year that The Voice of Ireland might have gone, but it came back and the ratings were really strong and it goes for 17 weeks.

“It’s hard to find something that is family appropriate, gives value for money for RTÉ and people aren’t moaning and is entertaining for 17 weeks so I don’t know what could take it.

On the topic of talent shows, Eoghan also revealed that he’d love to see Louis Walsh back on The X Factor.

“I’d love to see Louis Walsh back. I really would, I don’t know what it is, I don’t know when the shift happened when people decided they loved Louis Walsh but it’s a real thing. But I’d love to see him back.
