“Never before did I have to look for votes, but I am going to have to call on the people in the UK and Northern Ireland to vote for me every week on Strictly.”

The Donegal man admitted that his preoccupation with doing well on the BBC show has left him unable to sleep at night.

“I am so consumed by the whole experience that I’m not sleeping well at the moment,” he told his fan club magazine.

“I wake up at three or four in the morning, get out of bed and start practicing my steps.”

Meanwhile, the 53-year-old admitted that his awkward dancing style has put his partner Kristina Rihanoff to the test.

“Kristina looks so graceful when she fances, whereas I am just plain awkward when I try it,” he said.
