RTE heavyweights Ray D’Arcy and Ryan Tubridy are both reportedly vying for John Murray’s vacant Radio One slot after his show was axed last Friday.

While both broadcasters may want the slot, insiders have revealed Ray could be back to the more familiar morning slot.

“Inhouse rumours suggest Ray D’Arcy is to be moved from his 3pm slot to the 9am-10am slot,” they said.

Radio: Ray is rumoured to be in the running for John’s 9am slot

“It makes sense as it’s one of the biggest and most-listened to slots on Radio One, and his afternoon show has not lived up to expectations,” they told The Star.

Ray moved to Radio One after spending 14 years on the airwaves at Today FM and will also be fronting a new Saturday night chat show in autumn.

However, Ryan was in charge of the 9am-10am slot at Radio One before he was moved to 2fm following the death of Gerry Ryan in 2010.

“Nothing has been decided yet,” they said.
