Anton Savage reveals he almost plunged to his death

Anton Savage has revealed that he narrowly avoided falling into the Atlantic Ocean whilst in Sligo for his radio show.

The Dubliner hosted his show from a tug boat close to a barge that was carrying a disused Boeing 767 to Enniscrone.

Speaking on The Anton Savage Show on Today FM, he admitted, “It wasn’t my most dignified moment but I’m still here.”

Wearing a life-vest, the 39-year-old was transferring to a smaller tug boat from the tug he was broadcasting on when the scary moment happened.Despite the two boats only being a couple of feet apart when Anton leapt, a swell lifted the smaller boat as Anton was mid-air.

“The tug I was coming off and the other boat were in huge swells. So there was a very narrow window to get from one to the other.

“I may have chosen too narrow a window, so I ended up diving on to the bow rail of the boat,” he said.

Anton laughed off the near miss and said he was more worried about damaging the boat more so than himself.

When he was told that the others were worried about his safety, Anton said, “I’ve a long history of making stupid decisions. But so long as ankles aren’t broken, legs are unscratched, we’re good.”

The presenter was in Enniscrone to cover the arrival of a Boeing 767 that travelled by barge from Shannon on his TodayFM show.
