Andrew Scott admits it was 'strange' to play 007's boss

Irish actor Andrew Scott has opened up about his new role as a James Bond’s boss in the upcoming film, Spectre.

Admitting it was “strange”, the Churchtown native was originally pipped to play 007’s villain but instead landed the role of Denbigh, one of Bond’s Whitehall bosses in the film.

“I’m very happy to be there. It was a little strange at the beginning; I kept hearing the bond theme in the back of my mind, but it’s fine now.”

“I’ve worked with [director] Sam Mendes before and he creates a very nice atmosphere on set,” he revealed.

Currently being filmed in Pinewood Studios, Morocco, Mexico City and Austria stars Oscar winner Christoph Waltz as the villain.

The actor who has starred in The Stag and Garage, is now based in London but is very proud of his Irish roots.

“Being Irish is so much a part of who I am, and when you’re abroad, you become even more aware of that, actually.

“You identify even more strongly with being Irish because everyone else around you isn’t.

“And I still believe that the storytelling culture in Ireland is really strong, and it’s important that we make Irish films,” the Sherlock star added.
