A ladies man, a love for politics and BBC experience: Why we think Ryan Tubridy should take over John Murray’s slot

Over the weekend it was announced by RTÉ Radio One that John Murray will leave his regular slot next month, and we think Ryan Tubridy is the perfect host to take over.

The John Murray show will be no more and Brendan O’Connor will take over the slot for one month and while no one knows who will take over the 9am slot full time, Ray D’Arcy and Kathryn Thomas have both been linked to the job.

But Goss HQ would like to see The Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy take over the slot because let’s face in 2fm have made major changes recently and we reckon Tubs is better fitted to the Radio One bill.

Ryan Tubridy host celebrates his 40th Birthday at No.37 Dawson Street

Ryan currently presents his own show on 2fm from 9am but as the station takes on a fresher and more youthful stance, we feel the Dublin presenter should move over to Radio One and here is why:

1. He’s a Ladies Man

The dad of two receives calls into his show each day from women who have sad, difficult and harrowing stories and Ryan has a mannerism that can keep them calm and collected while getting a compelling story.

He’s always a hit with the ladies and has a certain charisma that we love.

2. Ryan is Good with the Kids

Ryan holds a competition each morning on his show for school kids across Ireland. I Know Stuff gives children a chance to come on air to answer five difficult questions and win an orange lunch box. It’s a great hit with the parents before the school run.

3. The Late Late Show has given him the best experience

The 42-year-old hosts Ireland’s longest running chat show every Friday night and the serious tone of the show has added to his radio style which would compliment Radio One.

4. He’s a Book Worm

It’s no secret that Tubs is a keen book enthusiast and is always encouraging listeners to read and so on the sister station he can spend more time focusing on literature and novels.

5. He has the BBC behind him

Ryan has spent time covering radio shows on BBC in the UK and has honed his craft perfectly for Radio One.

He’s always been a big hit over there with listeners and he could bring the same style to the John Murray slot.

6. Politics

Ryan’s family are all heavily involved with politics and his grandfather Sean Tubridy was a well known Fianna Fail politician and we know how much political talk is suited to the Radio One family.

7. Spelling Bee

It’s no lie that Tubs is a nerd and he loves nothing more than an intelligent debate. He hosts a spelling competition each year around Ireland with children from all corners with prizes for the finalists of the tough spelling competition.

8. Tubs is just a nice guy

Whether he stays in 2FM or makes the switch to Radio One we still just love Tubs for being Tubs!

When he was off on holidays recently 2FM decided to extend Breakfast Republic and The Nicky Byrne Show instead of replacing Tubs in his slot, so we’ll have our ears peeled for a move to Radio One soon.
