Miriam O'Callaghan on husband Steve Carson: 'He hasn't applied for the Director-General job in RTE'

Miriam O’Callaghan has insisted her husband Steve Carson hasn’t applied for the top job at RTE.

The famed PrimeTime host admitted her husband is happy with his role in the BBC and won’t be looking elsewhere.

“I’d like to clear that up – he has not applied for the Director-General job in RTE,” she said.

Admitting the reports her husband had applied for the role made them both “smile”, Miriam added that her and her husband don’t know where it all came from.

“He has not applied for the job. In fact, he’s loving his job where he is,” she told the Herald.

Taking up a job with the BBC in his native Belfast after he left RTE in 2013, Stephen doesn’t look to be moving from his role any time soon after Miriam revealed he moved into a new apartment.

“He has actually just moved into a new apartment in Belfast, so we were out celebrating on Wednesday night. It works out really well for us. I love Belfast,” she admitted.

“I’m out filming Primetime on Tuesday and Thursday and he is in Belfast and London so much. He’s actually only gone Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights.

“He loves the BBC… it’s where he started and it’s where I met him,” she added.

The broadcaster had previously ruled herself out of the running for the top RTE job and insisted she doesn’t know who will replace outgoing Director-General Noel Curran.
