Jim Sheridan has opened up on the chances of an Irish win at the Oscars.
The veteran director reckons that it it comes down to critcally acclaimed films Brooklyn and Room, Room will get the Academy Award.
Both films are up for Best Picture along with firm favourite The Revenant, but Jim reckons Room could have an “outside” chance.

“If I was going to back horses I would back Revenant,” he said.
“And if you want me to talk about Room and Brooklyn, I think Room has an outside chance.”
“But overall, I think Revenant is probably going to win as it is such a big movie,” he told The Herald.

Lenny Abrahamson is up for Best Director for his work on the indie drama, while Brie Larson is the favourite to pick up the Best Actress award after scooping the same at the Golden Globes.
It comes after Jim previously revealed he reckons Saoirse Ronan won’t win the Oscar for Best Actress as her peformance wasn’t “showy” enough.
