Irish actor Colm Meaney lands role in US Shakespeare drama

Colm Meaney has nabbed a recurring role in new TNT drama pilot Will, which tells the story of a young William Shakespeare.

The pilot, written by Craig Pearce, will chronicle the the wild life of William Shakespeare (Laurie Davidson) in his 20’s when he made his way into the theatre scene during the 16th century in London.

Colm will star in the pilot, which will be directed by Sherkar Kapur, and is described a “hot, contemporary, dangerous” version of the famed playwrights early life.

According to Deadline.com, the Van star will play James Burbage, a carpenter with a vision – to build the first theatre in London since Roman times, a 3,000-seat auditorium that became so famous it was simply called The Theatre.

His character must battle the authorities, rival theatres, and a fickle and at times riotous public to keep himself and his company of talented misfits afloat.

Colm most recently starred in The Journey as Martin McGuinness, which is currently in post-production and tells the true story of how political enemies Ian Paisley (Timothy Spall) and Martin end up taking a short journey which changes the course of history.
