Delighted: Maura and Daithi have received a boost

“Maura and I are delighted with the increase in viewing figures,” Daithi told the publication.

“We have a mighty team behind us in Cork and we really enjoy coming into work every day. I think viewers can see that, for us, it’s all about having the banter and the craic with our guests.”

The rise in viewing figures will come as welcome relief for RTÉ, who have struggled with their afternoon slot since the golden days of Derek Davis and Thelma Mansfield.

The combination of Gráinne Seoige and Joe O’Shea failed to hit the mark with viewers and was cancelled after just two seasons.

While Claire Byrne’s show, The Daily Show was a ratings hit, it was cancelled by RTÉ due to cutbacks.
