Shane MacGowan confirms the The Pogues are no more

Shane MacGowan has confirmed that The Pogues are no longer active as a band, but they remain friends as long as they “don’t tour together”.

The frontman admitted that the band, who reunited in 2001 and performed shows around the UK and Ireland up until 2013, grew to “hate each other” after they reformed.

When asked if the band we’re still together, he simply replied: “We’re not, no.”

While the Fairytale of New York band still remain close friends, Shane has put their friendship down to the fact that they are no longer on the road and growing “sick of each other”.

”They’d grown to hate each other all over again,” he told Vice.

”I don’t hate the band at all – they’re friends. I like them a lot. We were friends for years before we joined the band.

“We just got a bit sick of each other. We’re friends as long as we don’t tour together. I’ve done a hell of a lot of touring. I’ve had enough of it,” he added.
