Domhnall Gleeson reveals he's blown away by Saoirse Ronan's award success

Domhnall Gleeson has opened up on working with fellow Irish star Saoirse Ronan on Brooklyn – revealing her success at such a young age has him in awe.

The flame-haired actor played a supporting love-interest role in Brooklyn alongside the Carlow beauty, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe and SAG for her portrayal.

Despite Domhnall’s obvious delight to work with Saoirse, he points out that her age and her phenomenal success this year has quite literally left him thinking: “What the f**k?”

Baffled: Domhnall is still shocked at Saoirse Ronan’s age due to her success

“You look around and you’re like, ‘How old’s Saoirse again? 21? What the f**k! She’s been nominated for a what?’,” he told The Daily Beast.

Speaking about Brooklyn, which has nabbed numerous nominations and wins by critics for the film itself, the Malahide native said one of the reasons he loved the role was to do with his grandparents.

“It’s set around the same time that my grandparents would have been courting, on both sides, my father’s parents and my mother’s,” he explained.

“I’m very close to my grandparents, so I liked that aspect of it.”

Success: Domhnall has had a very successful 2015 – but puts it down to luck | VIPIRELAND.COM

Starring in critically acclaimed films Ex-Machina, The Revenant, Brooklyn and of course Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the 32-year-old insisted his career is all down to luck.

“I did a reasonable amount of work. I just got lucky this year,” he joked.

“I’m a very lucky guy in terms of the people I’ve gotten to share sets with, and that’s really the reason for the good year.”
