There’s going to be a Father Ted reunion at Electric Picnic

There’s going to be a Father Ted reunion at Electric Picnic this year.

Patrick McDonnell, who played Eoin McLove in the comedy, and Joe Rooney, who starred as Fr Damo Lennon, will be at Stradbally on September 4th this year to help judge A New Rubbish Song For Europe.

It’s been 20 years since Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy co-wrote the classic My Lovely Horse for the show as Fr Ted and Fr Dougal entry for A Song For Europe.

Neil and his girlfriend Cathy Davey, co-founder of My Lovely Horse Rescue, are organising the competition to celebrate the milestone and help raise money for the horse rescue.

“The judges are not looking for a new rendition of My Lovely Horse but instead an original – or badly plagiarised – comedy number, with a performance bearing the hallmarks of a tight budget,” spokesperson Deirdre Crookes said in a press release.

“Though there is no entry fee, please take a moment to help My Lovely Horse Rescue, and lovely horses everywhere, by choosing to donate €10 during the application process.”

To enter the song competition you need to visit the My Lovely Horse Rescue website to apply by 5pm tomorrow.
