The Goss Guide To Electric Picnic

Electric Picnic is just a few days away and over at Goss HQ we’re getting ready for the weekend with our Goss Guide to Electric Picnic.

With an amazing line-up including The Chemical Brothers, LCD Soundsystem, Lana Dey Ray, The 1975, Gavin James and more, this year’s festival is set to be one of the most musically best yet.

Along with the amazing acts playing, there are a lot of new features to the festival that are sure to keep festival goers busy even on the most quiet of times.

There are so manny amazing things to do, it’s hard to know where to begin!

Fortunately, Goss.ie has done the hard work and picked out the best bits of the festival.

 

1. 2FM At Electric Picnic

One of 2FM’s most popular DJ’s Jenny Greene will be teaming up with the RTE Concert Orchestra for a unique performance.

The collaboration will be an experimental gig with the 2FM DJ’s dance music mixing with the classical styling from the orchestra.

Be sure to catch it in the Rankins Wood from 9pm as it’s the first time this has ever been done at any Irish festival.

 

2. Go For A Dip In The Lake

For the first time ever, you will be able to SWIM in the Stradbally estate lake.

After a long night of dancing in the woods, a dip in the lake it the perfect thing to wake you up.

Be sure to remember your swimsuit so you can relax before another day of madness!

You can find the lake by following the signposts by the Jimi Hendrix campsite.

 

3. Pink Pamper Salon

If you don’t like the idea of dry shampoo every morning and knotted hair, book an appointment in with the Pink Pamper Salon.

The hair and beauty pop-up is back for another year at the festival to tend to the tresses of festival goers who prefer glamping rather than camping.

Be sure to book in for an appointment as they’ll be all booked up before the festival even starts!

The Pamper Palace will be set up by the showers in the Jimi Hendrix campsite.

 

4. Heineken Sound Atlas

This year at the Heineken Sound Atlas they’ve taken inspiration from the city of Amsterdam.

The city is known for it many canals and historic buildings but is also home to some of the world’s best DJs, parties, and culture.

At the stage, you can see some amazing acts like Steve Manning, Boots & Kats, Davey B, This Greedy Pig and more.

 

5. Throwback Party

Another new addition to the festival is a brand new music experience – the Throwback Party stage from Electric Ireland.

Electric Picnic announced their first acts for the Throwback Party are girl group Bananarama, German dance project Snap!, and popular Dublin-based band Smash Hits.

There will also be a “dance-off ring” for dance lovers to show off their moves for 60-seconds to a random song selected by the DJ.

So bring your parachute pants and crimp your hair for the ultimate throwback party.

 

6. Orchard Thieves The Bold mOTel

Camping at a festival is not the most glam experience for people – but Orchard Thieves have made it easier.

Introducing The Bold mOTel for the first time at Electric picnic, festival goers can take a break from partying and rest.

You won’t be abel to actually SLEEP in the motel though – Orchard Thieves are bringing it to the festival so you will get out of your tent and start dancing earlier.

 

7. Casa Bacardi

One of the most popular places for music lovers to go to at every Electric Picnic is Casa Bacardi.

Various DJs including Huxley, The Magician, Krafty Kuts, and more will be playing a range of different music mixes to the masses.

You can also expect to treat yourself to a delicious cocktail from the bar.

 

8. Pamper Street

Another pop-up salon, Pamper Street by Lavish Designs is hitting Electric Picnic for the first time.

The “street” is a play on the various small and fascinating pamper shops that they have encountered all over the world.

From Middle Eastern wet shaves to the vibrant nail bars of Mexico to spiritual cleansing from the Caribbean, there will be a host of experiences to try.

 

9. Rubberbandits Panel at Mindfield

Electric Picnic is the festival that keeps on giving as they’re another new area for campers and day goers to experience.

Mindfield is is a place where everyone can sit down and enjoy literary readings, political debate, performance poetry, science experiments, inspiring talks, public conversations, and a host of other things

Blindboy Boatclub from the Rubberbandits is presenting What the F**k is Culture Anyway? with a panel of “gasc*ntists” who will try to get a handle on what culture means to Irish people and what Irish culture means to the world.

Also joining Blindboy in the line-up is RTÉ’s Miriam O’Callaghan and comedian Al Porter.

 

10. Just Eat Retreat

One of the best things about festival is something we can’t live without – the food!

With so much choice, no doubt you and your friends will all want to try different things.

Forunately, Just Eat have created the Just Eat Retreat at Electic Picnic so you can sit back and relax with your friends as the Just Eat waiters do the hard work for you and grab your food and drinks for you.

Not only that but there will also be a range of other services including barbers and beauticians!

 

11. Another Rubbish Song For Europe

There’s going to be a Father Ted reunion at Electric Picnic this year.

One of the most well known songs from the show is My Lovely Horse – but their looking to find another new rubbish song for Europe.

Patrick McDonnell, who played Eoin McLove in the comedy, and Joe Rooney, who starred as Fr Damo Lennon, will be judging the competition for the next hilarious song.

Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy, who co-wrote the classic My Lovely Horse, and his girlfriend Cathy Davey, co-founder of My Lovely Horse Rescue, are organising the competition to celebrate the milestone and help raise money for the horse rescue

 

12. Cocoa Brown’s Slay Staion

Expect to glow at the festival this year and become the ultimate Golden Goddess.

Cocoa Brown are bringing their Slay Station to Electric Picnic for the first time ever!

Marissa Carter and her team will be at the Just Eat tent on Saturday with both the original Golden Goddess and the new fab Rose Gold Goddess – which is flying off shelves!

Treat yourself on Saturday before hitting the main stage for a night of dancing and glow with your friends.

 

13. Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow Returns

One of the most eccentric tents at the festival, the Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow is back.

With a host of entertainment from jugglers, fire breathers and other circus performers, it’s going to be one crazy fun tent!

Amazing bands like The Blizzards, The Strypes, The Academic and more Irish talent will be performing over the weekend at the spectacular tent.
