Ireland’s Olympics may not have gotten off to the best start, with middleweight boxer Michael O’Reilly receiving a provisional suspension for an alleged failed drugs test (which he is appealing).
However, Team Ireland managed to put the uncertainty and disappointment behind them as they joined the other countries for last night’s Opening Ceremony at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
It’s the first time the Olympics have been held in South America and they pulled out all the stops for the opening ceremony featuring Gisele Bundchen, spectacular samba dancing and, of course, the athletes.
