The Top 7 Irish Actors Who Should Be The Next 007

With rumours swirling that our very own Aidan Turner could be up against Idris Elba for the next James Bond role, we’ve decided to throw a few names in the hat ourselves.

We have a huge pool of talent here in Ireland, and with Pierce Brosnan being one of the most successful 007s to date, who’s to say another Irish man can’t take over from Daniel Craig?

Here’s Goss.ie‘s 7 favourite Irish 007s:

1. Aidan Turner

He’s flown halfway across the world to meet James Bond movie producers already, and we couldn’t agree more that Aidan Turner fits the bill for the next 007.

Aidan has risen to fame in the last year, thanks to his role as Ross Poldark in the hugely popular BBC series.

He then showed he can play the baddie (in an equally sexy way) when he was cast in the murder mystery series And Then There Were None.

This body would go down well on the big screen

He’s already proved he can handle the big screen, thanks to his role as Kili.

With that body, those looks and of course his insane talent, we think he’s a shoe in.

2. Michael Fassbender

Guests arrive at the The Irish Film & Television Academy awards 2014

Oscar nominee and all round incredible actor Michael Fassbender would be the perfect Bond.

Firstly he can speak fluent German as well as English, so have some scenes in Germany and he can show off his skills.

He’s already shown off his fighting skills in X-Men as well as Haywire – where he actually played a special agent.

You can see by that trailer that he looks damn good in a suit, and from meeting him in person myself I can tell you his charm is through the roof.

Those eyes, that accent combined with those fighting skills? He’ll have a Martini shaken not stirred, thank you very much.

3. Colin Farrell

Another A-lister that could do the job easily is Colin Farrell.

He’s the Irish King of the big screen, showing off his secret agent skills in the likes of SWAT, The Recruit and Total Recall.

Last year he got critical acclaim for his performance in True Detective, so a role like this should be an easy job.

He’s the perfect ladies man and again has that Irish charm we all love.

4. Tom Vaughan Lawlor

Love/Hate - Series 5

Okay, okay hear us out on this one.

He may be best known for gangland lord Nidge in RTE series Love/Hate but we think Tom could kill it as Bond.

If the softly spoken Dublin native can pull off a performance like that, we think he can transform into any character.

With his hair grown back, a Martini in his hand and Moneypenny by his side, he think he could be ace.

5. Domhnall Gleeson

Irish premiere of Frank at The Lighthouse Cinema

Who said 007 couldn’t be ginger? And who better to fill that role than our very own Domhnall.

He’s hit the big time in the last two years, with roles in Angelia Jolie’s Unbroken as well as the new Star Wars series and of course Oscar-winning movie The Renevant.

Of late he’s been playing baddies, but we think he could pull off a charming good guy too..

6. Jonathan Rhys Meyers

7th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards

He’s already starting to make his TV comeback, with roles in the new series of Vikings and Roots.

The Tudors star is no stranger to the big screen, starring in Mission Impossible III, proving he’s the perfect fit for a secret agent.

With those eyes and that sexy charm, where can we sign him up please?

7. Jason Barry

Last but not least, another Love/Hate star we could see filling Daniel Craig’s boots is Jason Barry.

Jason first came to fame for his role in Titanic alongside Leonarda DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, but has become more well-known in Ireland for playing Dano in the award-winning RTE series.

He lives in LA full-time, but we think he can be persuaded to head over to the UK for a while to film the new instalment.

If we can get one of these lads into the role hopefully they will shoot some scenes here too, is Skellig Michael fully booked?
