Although we’re only halfway through 2016, the year has been marred with a number of high-profile celebrity breakups.
Between marriages, engagements and new romances coming to an end, we’ve seen it all in a matter of six months.
Looking back on the year so far, we check out the biggest break-ups this side of 2016.
1. Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift
They were loves young dream but it all came crashing down after over a year of dating for Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift.
The pair started dating in 2015 and celebrated their 1st anniversary with an elaborate cake and romantic getaway in March.
Taylor remained hushed over their split until Calvin, aka Adam Wiles, broke his silence on Twitter.
“The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect,” he wrote.
2. Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston
After splitting from Calvin Harris, Taylor swiftly moved on with British actor Tom Hiddleston – shocking the world as they were spotted secretly smooching on the beach.
After flaunting their relationship to the world, sadly, the pair didn’t last and soon split after three months of dating.
A friend close to the British star has said that Tom “grew tired” of Taylor.
3. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
Hollywood stars Johnny Depp and Amber Heard publicly split in May.
Meeting on set of The Rum Diary in 2009, the couple started dating in 2013 before they announced their engagement in 2014.
Despite marrying in February 2015, Amber filed for divorce after a year of marriage and ordered Johnny to send MILLIONS in settlement money to various charities.
4. Roz Purcell and Bressie
Hearts broke around Ireland when Roz Purcell and Bressie announced their were going their separate ways after three years of dating.
The two, who were Ireland’s own #couplegoals, started dating in 2013 and recently adopted pooch Wilko earlier this year.
Confirming the shock news online, the model said: “We are still friends & love each other very much.”
Since their split, Roz has since moved on as she is casually dating new beau Zach Desmond.
5. Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid
After 7 months of dating, model Gigi Hadid and singer Zayn Malik reportedly split in June.
Having solidified their romance with a coveted Vogue cover earlier in the year, the two then hit the rocks after walking the red carpet together at the MET Ball in New York.
However, fans of the millennial couple can rejoice as Gigi referred to Zayn as her “boyfriend” days later in an interview.
Although the pair have now reconciled, Zayn isn’t entirely safe from ex-girlfriends, as Perrie Edwards’ new Little Mix song, Shout Out To My Ex, is said to be about the former 1D star.
6. Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderama
After six years together, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderama split in June.
Announcing the news on social media, the pair said: “we realised more than anything we’re better as best friends.”
The Stone Cold singer credits the That 70’s Show actor for helping her through her addiction battle.
7. James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff
Actor James McAvoy and Shameless star Anne-Marie Duff called it quits after nine years of marriage in 2016.
The announcement came out while Scots man James began publicity for the new flick X-Men: Apocalypse.
The pair got hitched in 2006 and welcomed their son Brendan in 2010.
Since the news, James has already been linked to his X-Men co-star Alexandra Shipp.
8. Kylie Jenner and Tyga
They were rocked by split rumours in November 2015 but Kylie Jenner and Tyga officially split in May 2016.
Despite Kylie keeping a dignified silence over the break-up, Tyga opened up about calling time on their relationship.
“I think, you know, we’re both just focusing on our lives, our individual lives right now, you know? Sometimes things don’t work out. But, you know, I love her,” he told TMZ.
However, after Kylie was linked to another rapper, Party Next Door, the reality star and Tyga soon reunited – and they now seem happier than ever.
9. Cheryl and Jean Bernard Fernandez-Versini
Cheryl and her French love Jean Bernard Fernandes-Versini officially split in January after 18 months of marriage.
The two apparently met in January 2014 while in South Africa.
The pair were alleged to have been living apart for five months, with the British singer waiting until The X Factor was over to file for divorce.
Just this week, the exes finalised their divorce, with Cheryl claiming that Jean Bernard’s “unreasonable behaviour” caused her stress and weight loss.
10. Khloe Kardashian and James Harden
Khloé Kardashian and NBA star James Harden went their separate ways in February in 2016.
The couple began dating in July 2015 but called it quits due to their busy schedules.
Getting back out there, Khloé is now reportedly engaged to her new beau Tristan Thompson, who she has been dating over the past few months.
11. Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne
They were known for their tumultuous relationship over the years – but Sharon and Ozzy reportedly ended their marriage in May.
After 34 years together, the couple were rocked by allegations Ozzy cheated on his wife with hairdresser Michelle Pugh.
The pair married in 1982 and have three children together, Aimee, Jack and Kelly.
Despite the affair, the two have since happily reconciled, much to fans delight.
12. Jeremy McConnell and Stephanie Davis
The never ending saga of on-off couple Jeremy McConnell and Stephanie Davis finally came to a finish in May.
After meeting in Celebrity Big Brother, the two descended into a whirlwind romance – bagging themselves numerous magazines deals.
The pair have now publicly called it quits after a number of months dating.
Following their split, Stephanie announced that she was expecting the Irish model’s baby, and insists that Jeremy wants nothing to do with their future son.
13. Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman
Actress Drew Barrymore and her art consultant hubby Will Kopelman called it quits in April after nearly four years of marriage.
Having tied the knot in 2012, the two previously dated briefly in 2008 before rekindling their romance in February 2011.
The US couple have two daughters Olive and Frankie together.
This is Drew’s third husband, having previously been married to actor Tom Green and Jeremy Thomas.
14. Lisa Murphy and Gerald Kean
Eternally on-again, off-again duo Lisa Murphy and Gerald Kean have called it quits…again.
The pair, who got engaged in 2009, split for the sixth time after reconciling in April 2015.
According to reports, former Dublin Housewives star Lisa moved out of Gerald’s Wicklow home, Drayton Manor, following the break.
Despite splitting, we’re sure the couple will work it out once more.
15. Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter
Although one of the cutest couples in the music industry, Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter, split for good in March.
The adorable duo first started seeing each other 2014 and briefly separated in December 2015 before rekindling their relationship earlier this year.
However, it wasn’t meant to be for the two and they called time on their romance for good a number of months later.
Opening up about the cause of the break-up, British star Ellie admitted their busy schedules was the reason for parting ways.

16. Zac Efron and Sami
Hollywood hunk Zac Efron split with his fashion designer girlfriend Sami Miro in April.
The good-looking couple, who were notoriously private, went their separate ways after nearly two years of dating.
Soon after their break-up, Bad Neighbours star Zac deleted every photo of Sami from his Instagram as well as unfollowing her on the social media platform and Twitter.
However, American beauty Sami has kept her snaps of them on hers…
17. Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid
Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and actress Courteney Cox called time on their engagement in December 2015.
Although they called it quits before we rang in the new year, it was one we were pretty devastated about in Goss HQ.
The two were famously introduced by mutual friend Ed Sheeran and started dating in 2014.
The Derry man then got down on knee later that year, although they hit the rocks a year later and sadly split.
However no celebrity break-up would be nothing without a fairytale ending, with the pair spotted together in March before they made their romance official at a red carpet event in May.

18. Megan McKenna and Pete Wicks
TOWIE’s it couple Megan McKenna and Pete Wicks shockingly split this month after it was revealed Pete had been “sexting” other girls.
While the Essex boy insisted he never actually physically got with any of the girl, Megan said the sexting was “worse than shagging”.
Not gonna lie, we were devastated when this news broke – they were so cute together!
19. Nicola Hughes and Alex Mytton
Made in Chelsea stars Nicola Hughes and Alex Mytton split earlier this year, and it has since been revealed that he broke with her by text.
Despite the break up being “messy” – Nicola has admitted that the pair are now on good terms, but they won’t be reuniting anytime soon.
“Obviously, originally the break up was quite messy but it’s now four months later and we’ve come to terms with things together. We’ll never be in a relationship again but we can be civil,” she told OK! magazine.
20. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie shocked the world by filing for divorce from Brad Pitt last month, and fans were left truly devastated.
News of the a-list couple’s split broke after an incident on a private jet – where Brad reportedly ‘got physical’ with his 15-year-old son Maddox during a drunken tirade.
Now, Brad is said to be “totally crushed”, and is leaning on his family as Angelina has obtained temporary custody of their six children, following a temporary custody agreement.
Brad and Angelina wed back in 2014 after 12 years together. The pair are parents to six children – Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight.
21. Brooklyn Beckham and Chloe Moretz
Brooklyn Beckham is rumoured to be dating model Adrienne Juliger following his split from Chloe Moretz.
The couple broke up after reports said that they weren’t spending much time together, after Brooklyn flew back to London.
The photographer is no stranger to his rumoured new beau Adrienne, as the pair appeared on the cover of Miss Vogue together before.
22. Justin Bieber and Sofia Ritchie
Justin Bieber and Sofia Richie split last month after their brief summer fling.
The Love Yourself singer and the 18-year-old model made headlines back in August when they were spotted getting hot and heavy in Mexico – however, their romance fizzled out.
According to a source, the pair were never officially together – and Justin was the one who decided to “cool things down”.
“They were never officially together, but more casual hanging out and having fun.”
23. Zoe Ball and Fatboy Slim
In the same few weeks which saw Johnny Depp and Amber Heard split, and of course Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt – another celebrity couple called it a day.
TV presenter Zoe Ball confirmed she is set to divorce Fatboy Slim after 18 years of marriage.
Zoe announced the news through her Twitter page with an open statement.
“With great sadness we are announcing that we have seperated,” she told her followers.
“After many exciting adventures together over the last 18 years we have come to the end of our rainbow,” she touchingly added.
24. Liev Schrieber and Naomi Watts
Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts confirmed that they have ended their relationship last month.
In a joint statement to Entertainment Tonight, the couple said they still have nothing but love for each other.
“Over the past few months we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple,” the statement read.
“It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts tha we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship. While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy.”
The couple never married but were together since 2005 and have two children together – Sasha (9) and Samuel (7).
25. Vanilla Ice and Laura Van Winkle
The rapper, real name Robert Van Winkle, and his wife Laura Van Winkle filed for divorce this month.
The couple have two daughters together – Dusti Rain, 18, and KeeLee Breeze, 16.
The mother-of-two reportedly filed for divorce this week after 16 years of marriage.
The pair showed a strong front in both 2001 and again in 2008 when the rapper was arrested for assaulting his wife.
26. Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer
In a statement revealed to People, the Spider Man actor recently revealed he and his wife Jennifer have called it quits.
In the statement the couple said their “first priority remains raising [their] children together with enduring love, respect, and friendship.”
The couple added that they had done a lot of “soul searching” before coming to the tough decision.
