WATCH: Willow Smith shocks mother Jada Pinkett by revealing secret self-harm battle

The singer started self harming at the tender age of 12

Willow Smith shocked her mother Jada Pinkett and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norris by revealing her secret self-harm battle on their new Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk.

The 17-year-old appeared on her mother’s new series to discuss surviving loss, and ended up revealing something Jada never knew about her.

Willow explained, “It was after that whole Whip My Hair thing [in 2010] and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?'”

“After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album, and I was like, ‘No. I’m not gonna do that.’

“And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself,” she confessed.

A shocked Jada then said, “What? When were you cutting yourself? I didn’t see that part. Cutting yourself where?”

Willow pointed to a faint scar on her wrist, and admitted that she eventually stopped about five years ago because she realised “this is actually psychotic.”

The Calabasas native went on to explain, “I was experiencing so much emotional pain, but my physical circumstances weren’t reflecting that. [Cutting yourself] makes it feel real instead of like a ghost, like, in your mind.”
