EXCLUSIVE! Sherlock’s Andrew Scott voices his opinion on the 8th amendment referendum

Andrew Scott has revealed his stance on the upcoming referendum on the 8th amendment.

The Sherlock star was in Dublin for the World Premiere of his new movie, The Delinquent Season, directed by Mark O’Rowe.

The movie, which marked the end of the Audi Dublin International Film Festival, sees two middle-class Dublin couples become intertwined as a tale of infidelity and emotional abuse plays out.

Speaking to Goss.ie, the actor expressed his dismay at the state of sex education in Ireland and went on to state his approval for the passing of the Sex Ed Bill through the second stage of the Dáil last week which he thinks was “incredibly important”.

Of sex education, he said, “It’s three pages in a biology book, you know? People are talking about the biology of sex rather than the psychology of sex.”

“I think it’s really important in this age where we talking about consent, and what that means, and how we negotiate that is incredibly important, and it’s up to the state to make sure that young people are educated properly on that subject.”

When asked if would he be using his platform to take a stand on the women’s reproductive rights issue that will be voted on this coming May 25th, he immediately expressed his support for the repeal campaign.

“Yes, absolutely it is. Yes, I’m absolutely going to be voting Yes.”

The Delinquent Season is out in cinemas nationwide from the 27th of April.
