Galentine’s Day – the fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day for singletons

If you're flying single this Valentine's Day, this is exactly what you need!

Valentine’s Day is coming up and while a lot of people will spend it with their significant other, those who are single have something a lot more fun to look forward to.

Gal-entine’s Day.

Galentine’s Day is all about friendship and solidarity, standing in the face of the Hallmark holiday of love.

We have come up with a few ideas that you and your ‘gals’ can do to celebrate this fine holiday.

1. Make a day of it

Although V day is on a weekday this year, a lot of couples will be celebrating the weekends before and after.

Grab some of your single friends and make a day trip. Travel down to Co. Clare to the Cliffs of Moher, drive out to Kildare Village for a spot of shopping or travel to a rural town you’ve never been to before.

Whatever you do, just get away from the city, forget about everything and just enjoy your time with friends.

2. Cocktails

If you don’t want to spend the big bucks on a big night out, why not have a cocktail night at home?

Amongst your friends, figure out what your top 3 favourite cocktails are and get all of the ingredients you need. We love fruity daiquiris as you can make a pitcher of them to have all evening long.

Have each friend bring a plate of nibbles and desserts that you can all snack on while drinking your favourite cocktails and watching rom-coms on Netflix.

3. Jump Around

If cocktails aren’t your thing, a fun group activity could be exactly what you need.

Jumpzone is a warehouse filled with trampolines. You can play basketball, dodgeball or just jump around. If you’re looking for a silly escape from the world this is perfect.

You can make group bookings here with the price being just €11 an hour. We 100% recommend it.

4. Take a Hike

With the mornings getting a little brighter every day, we are becoming a lot more motivated to get out and enjoy nature.

Get up early one day, grab the girls and go for a hike. The Sugarloaf, Glendalough and Lough Tay (a.k.a. the Guinness Lake) are all fun walks with absolutely breathtaking views.

Go for a spot of brunch afterwards to refuel yourselves for the rest of the day. We love Avoca Handweavers in Kilmacanogue or Urbun in Cabinteely.

If you’re saving the pennies, pack a picnic with all of your old school favourites from when you were young to add a bit of nostalgia to the walk. We love egg salad sandwiches and jelly, perfect food for a picnic.

5. Pamper night

There is nothing better than a pamper night with your best friends.

Everyone should bring all of their face masks, hair masks and nail polishes they have from home and mix and match between the group.

Relaxing with face masks and freshly painted nails while you drink wine and watch reruns of Sex and The City is a pretty good depiction of heaven.
